Anti-Ligature Curtain Tracks for Higher-Risk Environments

Our curtain track range is designed to support privacy while reducing ligature and weapon risks in demanding healthcare settings.

Magnetic load-release systems allow the complete track and curtain to separate from the fixing brackets under abnormal load. Fixed reduced-ligature systems use release gliders instead, allowing the curtain to detach while the track remains securely fixed.

We can help you select the appropriate track type, fixing method and release configuration for the room and its intended use.

Magnetic Aluminium Curtain Track

A white powder-coated aluminium track designed for hand-drawn curtains and medium to heavy curtain use.

Low-friction roller runners support smooth operation, while magnetic wall or top-fix brackets allow the complete track and curtain to release under abnormal load.

The system can then be reinstated following release, making it suitable for a wide range of mental health and healthcare applications.

  • Maximum length: 5000 mm

Flexible Anti-Ligature Curtain Track

A lightweight flexible plastic curtain track designed for environments where the use of an aluminium track may present an additional weapon risk.

The specially formulated track is shatter resistant and intended for lightweight curtains. Self-lubricating gliders provide smooth hand-drawn operation.

Magnetic wall or top-fix brackets allow the complete track and curtain to separate under abnormal load.

  • Maximum length: 3700 mm

Fixed Reduced-Ligature Curtain Track

A fixed aluminium track designed to sit closely against the wall or ceiling and reduce ligature and weapon risks.

The curtain is supported by specialist release gliders. Under excessive load, the curtain separates from the gliders while the track remains fixed.

Different glider configurations allow the release weight to be selected around certain requirements. The track can also be formed for bay windows, ensuite showers and similar layouts.

  • Release ranges: 12–36 kg

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question about anti-ligature curtain tracks? Here are answers to common queries from healthcare estates teams, contractors and specifiers.

Magnetic systems allow the complete track and curtain to separate from the fixing brackets under abnormal load, reducing the fixed load-bearing point.

Magnetic anti-ligature tracks release from their brackets. Reduced-ligature fixed tracks remain in place while the curtain releases from specialist gliders.

This depends on the assessed risk. Flexible non-metallic tracks may be appropriate where the use of metal track presents an additional weapon risk.

Yes. Magnetic aluminium and flexible systems support wall or top fixing. Fixed reduced-ligature systems can also be specified for suitable wall or ceiling applications.

Magnetic load-release systems should be tested after installation and inspected periodically to confirm continued correct operation.

Curtains & Track Configuration

Curtain weight and intended use are important parts of system selection.

The flexible track is specifically intended for lightweight curtains, while the magnetic aluminium option supports medium to heavier curtain use.

For fixed reduced-ligature systems, different glider configurations can be used to achieve different release ranges. Fixing type, bracket spacing and curtain specification should all be confirmed before installation.

Specification, Installation & Testing

Correct specification starts with the room use, assessed risk level and fixing conditions.

We can review wall or ceiling substrates, curtain weight, track material and release requirements before installation.

Magnetic load-release systems should be installed by trained personnel in line with manufacturer guidance, followed by commissioning and load testing where required.

Ongoing inspection and maintenance should form part of the management process to identify damage, tampering or changes that could affect system performance.

Compliance, Testing & Ongoing Performance

Risk Assessment & System Selection

Select the track type, release method and curtain configuration around the room use and assessed ligature risk.

Trained Installation

Systems should be installed by trained personnel in line with manufacturer fixing, bracket and spacing requirements.

Commissioning & Load Testing

Load-release systems should be tested after installation to confirm performance, with results included in the handover.

Inspection & Maintenance

Regular inspection and load testing help identify damage, tampering or changes that could affect system performance.
